Your Move

There is a high probability, that there will be a point in most of our lives where our conflict, whether caused by forces beyond our control or self-inflicted, will take us to a low point. The bottom, a place where quitting seems like a good option and hanging on just doesn’t seem worth it.  In the story of our life, this is called the climax, the crux of our existence.

It is at this point when we are being tested to our limits that our true character will be revealed. Will you fold, will you fight, will you crumble under the pressure, or will you overcome your circumstance? What will be your theme, how do you want to be remembered, will they look to your story for inspiration, or forget about you completely?

It’s your story, your life, your choice, and what you do next will determine your destiny.

Your move….

Beautiful Blemishes (A Freewrite)

My scars are more beautiful than your perfection, because buried deep in them you will find the the glorious stories of Kings, links to the creation of civilization, the roots of mathematics and science, the origins of language, and the foundation of space travel.

My scars are more beautiful than your perfection, because each one of my scars is unique like a seashell; and if you put your ear close enough to them, you will hear the the soulful sounds of slaves passing messages to guide their brothers and sisters to freedom.  If you put your ear close enough to them,  you will hear the sound of love battling hate for your soul, for your life, and for your tomorrow.

My scars are more beautiful than your perfection, because each one of them represents my journey; and if you slowly rub your hands over them, they will teach you to retrace your steps, help you find the fork in the road where you lost your way, and guide you back to the garden where it was just us.

My scars are more beautiful than your perfection, because they represent resiliency, courage, hope, and everything we are to become when we learn to love ourselves again and to say goodbye to this dead end pursuit to nothingness.

My scars are more beautiful than your perfection, because your perfection is nothing more than a man made mask.  A costume designed to cover up your insecurities and to hide your flaws.  A veil built with the purpose of hiding enough of you to make you beautiful…

…and my scars, they were handed to me through trials and tribulations carefully crafted by the hands of God, seared into my heart with the hot iron of love, and synthesized with my soul.

My scars are more beautiful than your perfection, because they represent me, unhidden, unafraid, unbowed, and exactly as God intended me to be…  Beautiful.

What has your perfection done for you?

A Beautiful Night

One of the many beautiful things I learned last night was that being an elder doesn’t mean giving the youth a blue print on how to do it. We are not their navigation systems placed in their lives to give them step by step instructions to their truth. They’ll figure their own path out the way we’re figuring out ours… and those obstacles we want them to avoid and those mistakes we don’t want them to make will serve as building blocks for their wisdom the way it has served us in our lives.

In truth, what they really need from us is support. They need us to share our wisdom without trying to force them to use it. They need us to occasionally pick them up when they start to feel like they can’t go any further. They need us to quietly tell them they can achieve their dreams when the whole world is telling them to turn back and run into the cave of fear with the rest of the sheep. They need us to acknowledge their ascension to the thrones that are rightfully theirs and to step aside when the time is right. Most of all, they need us to stop hating on them for not being us and to love them for who they are.
