Beware of Poet

I just read an epic poem that reminded me of some cold hard facts. Namely, If you hurt a poet’s heart, they’ll murder you with their mind. They’ll torture your spirit with truth. They’ll lynch your lies and barbecue them over your soul. They’ll release their pain like police dogs and let them bite at your facade. They’ll open up their pen like a hose and spray you with their words, until

you are
naked
shaking
exposed
powerless
defeated
and lastly,
erased

but only after the poet’s thirst
has been satisfied

A poet who has been wronged has no mercy, and even with all of your layers of bullshit, you don’t stand a chance. BEWARE!!

A Reason to Smile

We believe abstract ideas without any awareness of their origin. We question the validity of information in which the truth has no meaning. We look up to Godless sinners because they have money, and down on God fearing human beings because they’re broke. We tear down when we should build up, lash out when we should embrace, speak when we should be quiet and listen. We have forsaken our community, our family, and our God because we believe the rat race is the path to happiness… It’s amazing when you think about it; for all of our misguided ideas and imperfect actions; God still continues to love us. If that’s not a reason to smile and be thankful….. well you already know.

Angels and Griots

I will not shed a single tear
For your death

I will not experience a single moment of despair
Because you are no longer here

I will not feel a second of sorrow
Because you have been called home

I will not be angry
Or distraught
Or believe you have left before your time

I will never allow myself to think of your death
As an injustice
God is not unjust

I will not hang my head in sadness
Because I am at peace
Knowing that you have found peace

I will not lose hope
Because I have accepted God’s plan and know,
There is no such thing as dying before your time

Sooner or later
One of us had to say goodbye to the other
It only made sense that you went home first

You have touched souls
Lifted spirits
Gave hope
And showed the world how to love
Even when the world forgot how to love you

And me,
I am a griot
A poet
A story teller
Left here to share the stories of your love
In hopes
That they will get it
Before our time runs out

I will not shed a single tear
For your death
Because it is our souls,
Hanging in the balance now
