What Have I Learned (Monday Morning Thoughts)

Planking? Hell naw, this is called fathering… You should try it..

I used to be motivated by hate, but my success always left me feeling slightly unfulfilled and I always fell short of my real purpose.

I used to be driven by those who doubted me, but I realized that for everything I was able to achieve I only did the things that other people didn’t believe I could do, not what I was sent here to do.

I used to pushed by fear, until I understood that being afraid of the consequences of not doing something is not a real reason to act, and acting on that fear does not reflect a hear’s true desire.

I used to seek out personal accomplishment and prestige, until I figured out that the pedestal that man has built for us to stand on sits on a shaky foundation, and man’s accolades can never satiate our soul.

What have I learned? That soulful fulfillment requires us to be pushed by something greater than hate, doubt, fear, or ego. That when you find your true purpose, the journey of walking the path is fulfilling even if you never reach your destination. That when you’re living your dream, even your failures feel better than the success you achieved as a result of those other motivators. That when you have a genuine purpose, you have more of a desire to focus on how and less time to focus on why. That when you include love in everything you do, happiness becomes as natural to you as breathing.

I Don’t See Ugly

Celebrate Life

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see uncertainty
as you try to balance the weight
of walking God’s path
while simultaneously trying to fit into man’s world

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see insecurity
as the damage of the years
of negative attacks
from your peers
and even your family
start to weigh you down
with enough doubt
to make you wonder,
what if they’re right

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see a work in progress

Someone who’s battle tested
and scarred
yet still fighting

Someone who’s been beaten up
and kicked while they were down
but still getting up

Someone who’s been doubted
and told they would never amount to anything
yet still chasing their dreams

Someone who’s fallen short
and been labeled a failure
but still has the audacity to believe
God has a plan

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see someone
who needs to breathe
to remember all those other times
when you fell in a hole so deep
that you never thought the light would
find you again
just before you did something amazing

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see beauty
I see power
I see resilience
I see life
I see light
I see love
I see infinite possibilities

I see dreams,
Your dreams
coming to fruition

I see truth and destiny
just within arms reach

I see you,
right on the verge
ready to ignore your fear
just long enough to say I do
to your greatness…

and why not
you’ve already come this far..

I Am Free

I vanquished my fear, gave anger its walking papers, tore down the walls of my safe little box, and ended my life long relationship with doubt.  No longer am I a beaten vessel suffering from Battered Dreamer Syndrome. Finally, I am free to love fearlessly and to live life abundantly.  I am Free!
