Unless they’re telling you that you’re a descendant of Kings and Queens, are beautiful to your core, have an infinite history, and boundless potential; don’t believe them. They will try to convince you that you’re a monster and lucky to get the scraps off their plate, don’t believe them. They will tell you that you’re ugly because of your perceived physical deformities, an idea that you your skin is of a less favorable color, you have the wrong origin of birth or current country of residence, your weight, height, and/or or your age; don’t believe them. They will tell you that your scars and the weight you gained from becoming a mother makes you less attractive. Don’t believe them.

What and who you are is a child of God. You are unique and beautiful exactly as God created you. Hear it, learn it, believe it, accept it, and act like the Kings and Queens you are.

Don’t Believe Them
A Word on Fear
Every now and then you’ll meet someone who’ll tell you about all the things they dreamed of doing and being when they were younger. Have you ever noticed the hurt, the pain, the regret in their eyes? The regret of someone that allowed their fear of failure to get in the way of the opportunity to chase their dreams and to follow their heart.

I don’t share this to say we’re better. I share this because I know that there is a part of all of us that is afraid. It’s okay to be afraid, it’s not okay to be ruled by your fear. What we think is keeping us from being hurt often ends up being the thing that cuts at us the deepest. Listen to their soul when they talk to you, they are really telling you to get up and do that thing you know you have to do. Regardless of the outcome, regret is a heavier burden to carry than doing your best.
Responsibility of an Artist
In my opinion, there are two things an artist must do. First, we must use our voice to create imagery with our words, movement, paint, and sound that give voices to the billions of people who for one reason or another are unable to articulate their story. Second, we must use our art to create a future so beautiful, that we give those souls that are barely hanging on enough hope to keep believing that as cruel as the world has been, that it’s not time to give up yet, that there is something beautiful enough in these crazy times to keep fighting for.
