Who Am I

Me

These days life is taking me further away from my affiliations and bringing me closer to my family, friends, and love. I’m starting to find that all of the labels provide little insight into who I am and even less value to me personally. Poet, Christian, Que Dog, Black Man, Manager, Engineer, Activist, American, or whatever else I’ve been called.

Who am I? I am a child of God trying to use the gifts God gave me to walk in the light and to be a blessing to everyone I come in contact with. I am an incomplete work of art being painted one stroke at a time. I am a traveler who hasn’t yet reached my destination, therefore my story is incomplete. I can not change what I’ve done or where I’ve been, but every second is a new stroke that leaves my portrait slightly more finished.

Who am I? We’ll have to wait and see what the portrait looks like when it’s complete. Even then, the interpretation will be debatable to everyone but the painter. Even then, only God will know what he intended me to be.

Who am I? I am not an artist, I am a piece of art in God’s collection of love.

Happy Mother’s Day

To the woman that taught me that boxes only exist in your head, that’s it’s okay to be more than they expect you to be, that if you’re living then it’s not to late to live your dream, to fight without retreat, to dream without doubt, to live without fear, to walk with purpose, to believe and have faith in yourself, to know God for yourself, to be generous and kind, to focus on life instead of wasting your time being afraid of death, and to love unconditionally… You are in heaven now, but your influence, your life, your mark on this world is as undeniable today as it was when you were here on earth with us. You are because I am, and I am because you are my hero.

To all the other women, fighting for freedom, living for hope, embracing your dreams, raising young warriors, and building better tomorrows through your LOVE. I love you for who you are and I thank God for placing angels in our mist. You are truly the best of our kind.

My heart beats in rhythms of three. I Love You, I Love You, I Love You. ~ Sean King

You Can Be (Friday Morning Freewrite)

God says you can be
Man says ain’t nothing in life worth having that you can get for free
Man got us working for it and trying to buy it, but
God says you can be
Where am I going to find something that God put in me?
Why am I trying to buy something that God gave me for free?
Why am I chasing happiness when God says you can be?
Rhetorical questions, Love, Happiness, and Freedom all live in me
A lifetime wasted chasing something God says you can be
You can be
You can be
It’s that simple
Smile, give thanks, project love, shine bright, and be
All that God says you can be…
