Conversation in Haiku (I-Esha and Sean)

Every now and then, my sister I-Esha and I will have a conversation using the Haiku format.  Here is the latest installment.  The first installment can be found here.

~ I-Esha
Running is easy
fear of love quickens my pace
A new world record

~ Sean
Where are you going?
Key moments of life, just missed
By your running heart.

~ I-Esha
Not sure, but can’t stay
memories haunt me, chase me
hoping to find faith

~ Sean
Take a look at self
Faith is buried inside us
Find? Choose to become.

~ I-Esha
I’m a romantic
Wounded by lies, pain, deceit
Running protects me

~ Sean
The wounds help us grow
Preparation for what’s next
Running just buys time

~I-Esha
Wise man speaks true words
No more running, time to heal
Still scared, but hopeful

I Don’t See Ugly

Celebrate Life

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see uncertainty
as you try to balance the weight
of walking God’s path
while simultaneously trying to fit into man’s world

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see insecurity
as the damage of the years
of negative attacks
from your peers
and even your family
start to weigh you down
with enough doubt
to make you wonder,
what if they’re right

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see a work in progress

Someone who’s battle tested
and scarred
yet still fighting

Someone who’s been beaten up
and kicked while they were down
but still getting up

Someone who’s been doubted
and told they would never amount to anything
yet still chasing their dreams

Someone who’s fallen short
and been labeled a failure
but still has the audacity to believe
God has a plan

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see someone
who needs to breathe
reflect
to remember all those other times
when you fell in a hole so deep
that you never thought the light would
find you again
just before you did something amazing

When I see you at your lowest point
I don’t see ugly
I see beauty
I see power
I see resilience
I see life
I see light
I see love
I see infinite possibilities

I see dreams,
Your dreams
coming to fruition

I see truth and destiny
just within arms reach

I see you,
right on the verge
ready to ignore your fear
just long enough to say I do
to your greatness…

and why not
you’ve already come this far..

Get Up

Every time I fall down, I get up.
I get up for every nappy haired knock kneed boy who was called a nigger.
I get up for every little kid that came from a broken home.
I get up for every kid that was taught to get low at the sound of gunfire.
I get up for every student that’s had a teacher who didn’t believe in them.
I get up for every brother who’s been attacked, cuffed, pushed down on the street, and thrown in the back of a police car for not having a California license plate.
I get up for every human being who’s been told that they ain’t shit, will never be shit, and can’t do shit about it.
I get up for every person who’s been told they’re going to hell for not going to church.
I get up, for every person who’s ever had an unrealistic dream.
I get up, for everyone who’s ever been poor, oppressed, endured racism, and fought through sickness without health care.
I get up for everyone who’s too afraid to get up.
I get up every time I fall so that you know,
Lying on the ground is no place for a child of God, regardless of what man thinks about you.
I get up for you.
